The Mission of Downtown
Mainstreet, Inc. :
The "City Vision 2000 Master Plan" is an economic redevelopment and
revitalization plan for the "heart and soul" of our region....Historic Downtown
La Crosse. Our downtown is the "hub" of the regional economic wheel. In the
Spring of 1993, we began the implementation of the Master Plan goals to strengthen our
economic "hub" and provide a high degree of economic stability for our region's
entrance into the new century.
Downtown Mainstreet, Inc. (DMI) created the public/private partnership that
accomplished major achievements in downtown La Crosse including new public and private
investments in the downtown area exceeding $104 million. This "first time"
collaboration is the most important implementation "tool" of guaranteeing
project successes needed to build a strong economic foundation for our future.
Working separately , neither public nor private sectors would have been able to achieve
the Master Plan goals. DMI is the only private non-profit business organization with
the sole responsibility to "shepherd" the public/private partnership and manage
the continued implementation of the Master Plan to insure the long-term success of
downtown's economic revival.
